July 9, 2024 | From New Orleans Fire Department
On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 10:43 a.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to a reported residential fire in the 2600 block of Allen St. Arriving on the scene at 10:51 a.m., the first arriving NOFD unit struck a second alarm immediately. A duplex at 2613-15 Allen St. was heavily involved in flames at the time of NOFD arrival and had already extended to exposed properties to left (2617-19 Allen St.) and right (2609-11 Allen St.). The flames were so intense that an occupied double across the street (1997-99 Law St.) suffered radiant heat damage to one of its exterior walls. A third alarm was requested at 11:04 a.m. to relieve the first-up units, as temperatures hovered around 90 degrees and a heat index above 110 degrees.
Twenty-two NOFD units, supported by 67 NOFD Fire Operations personnel, were used to bring this incident under control at 11:35 a.m. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The New Orleans Police Department, Entergy, the Office of Code Enforcement and New Orleans Emergency Medical Services were all on scene assisting in the mitigation of this incident.
