October 6, 2024 | From New Orleans Fire Department
On Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 5:00 p.m., a one-alarm contingent of New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) Fire Operations personnel was dispatched to a reported dwelling fire near the intersection of Frenchman and Selma Streets in Gentilly. The first NOFD company arrived on the scene at 5:05 p.m., finding a working fire in the detached shed of a home just around the corner, at 2150 Robin St. Upon NOFD arrival, the fire had already begun to extend to the rear and left side of the occupied two-story duplex at 5125-27 Frenchman St. and the shed in the backyard of another occupied duplex at 2142-44 Robin St. Although the shed at 2150 Robin St. was almost completely consumed, firefighters were able to limit the damage to the dwelling at 5125-27 Frenchman St. to mostly just its exterior walls and prevent the shed at 2142-44 Robin St from being a total loss.
The fire was placed under control at 5:16 p.m. During post fire overhaul operations, a body was found on the floor of the original fire building. Although neighbors stated that an adult male often resided in the shed, the post incident condition of the body made any immediate identification difficult. Fire and police investigators were called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire and death of the victim.
