NOFD RESPONDS TO TWO, TWO-ALARM FIRES IN NEW ORLEANS EAST

On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at 12:50 a.m. the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to 7839 Read Blvd. Upon arrival, firefighters found an active/working fire on the right side of a two-story apartment four-plex with flames quickly approaching the upper levels and roof of the building.  Fire crews quickly moved to extinguish the fire, flames had already spread to the attic space and a second alarm was requested for additional staffing.  Heavy flames had also begun to affect an adjacent complex just feet from the burning dwelling.  NOFD personnel could access the attic and bring the fire under control but not after extensive damage to the one apartment in the front of the building and heavy damage to the attic space of the structure.  There was also moderate damage to the building just next to the primary structure.  NOFD personnel did an extraordinary job containing and controlling this fire considering the type of structure, and the proximity of the other residences.  No injuries were reported by fire personnel or the civilian population; however, there is a total of (8) eight, people displaced because of the fire. The Red Cross was notified of the incident and provided information on those affected.  NOFD fire investigators are presently investigating the incident.
Fifteen NOFD units staffed with thirty-eight fire personnel were deployed to bring the incident under control.
