The NOFD Responds to One-Alarm Fire with Fatality in NOE

On Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 2:50 a.m., New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) Fire Operations personnel were dispatched to the scene of a reported residential fire, with possible persons trapped, at 4900 Flake Ave in New Orleans East. Arriving to the scene at 2:55 a.m., firefighters encountered a small, single-story, single-family dwelling with flames already through the roof. Neighbors advised firefighters that the adult male resident of this dwelling was unaccounted for. The victim has been identified as the homeowner, a 67yr old male who lived alone at the residence.

Neighborhood residents reported hearing what sounded like an explosion, before coming outside and finding their neighbor’s home already fully involved in flames. Seven NOFD units, supported by twenty-one Fire Operations personnel, were used to bring this incident under control at 3:20 a.m. Fire Investigators are currently attempting to determine the cause of this incident.
