NOFD Firefighters Extinguish Two-Alarm Fire in Algiers
On Wednesday, February 19, at 10:23 p.m., New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) firefighters were dispatched to a reported fire involving a dwelling, in the 2800 block of Eton St., in Algiers. The first NOFD units arrived at the scene of 2844 Eton St. at 10:30 p.m., finding a single-story, wood-framed single-family home already heavily involved in flames. A second alarm was requested at 10:35 p.m., as strong winds helped strengthen the fire. A heavy fuel load (combustibles, stored in and around the home) also added to the intensity of this fire. According to the owner, the home was unoccupied and being used for storage. Taking into account the strong winds and heavy fuel load, NOFD Fire Operations personnel did a commendable job of keeping the fire contained to the building of origin.
Eighteen NOFD units, supported by forty-seven Fire Operations personnel, were used to bring this incident under control at 12:19 a.m. There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
