Elderly Male Found Unresponsive at the Scene of Morning Fire
On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 6:12 a.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to the scene of a residential fire with the possibility of someone trapped. The first NOFD unit arrived at the scene of 1932 Foucher St. at 6:19 a.m., finding a single-family, camel-backed dwelling with smoke emanating from the rear of the home. An elderly male resident, who had been pulled from the home by his wife and a neighbor, was lying unresponsive just outside the property. Firefighters immediately began Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), in an attempt to revive the victim, prior to New Orleans Emergency Medical Services’ (NOEMS) arrival and transport of the victim to an area hospital with continued resuscitation efforts.
The remaining one-alarm contingent of NOFD Fire Operations personnel were able to make an interior attack, suppressing the fire near its origin in a rear bedroom of the home. Firefighters also rescued a dog that was hiding in a closet of the home. Six NOFD units, supported by twenty Fire Operations personnel, were used to bring this incident under control at 6:25 a.m. There were no other injuries reported, and the fire is believed to have been started by the victim smoking in bed while using an oxygen tank to assist breathing. Currently, we have not received notification of whether the victim survived.
