On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 10:40 a.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to a reported dwelling fire at 4503 Bonita St., in New Orleans East. While in route, responding NOFD units received reports of possible persons trapped. Firefighters arrived at the scene of 4501-03 Bonita St., a single-story, occupied duplex, at 10:46 a.m. Upon arrival, NOFD Fire Operations personnel were informed that an adult male at 4503 Bonita St., and an elderly female that resided at 4501 Bonita St., had both escaped safely prior to NOFD arrival. A search of both residences was still conducted to assure everyone had escaped safely, as fire crews simultaneously entered the building to attack the fire at the perceived area of origin.

It was determined that the fire began in an area left of the front door of 4503 Bonita St. and quickly spread by way of a common attic to the adjoining apartment. Six NOFD units, supported by twenty Fire Operations personnel, were used to bring this incident under control at 11:03 a.m. The American Red Cross was requested to the scene to assist the ten residents (4501 Bonita-2 adults, 4503 Bonita-4 adults/4 children) that will be displaced by this incident.
