Accidental Two-Alarm Fire Caused by Plumbing Work

On Wednesday, July 2, 2025,The New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) responded to a two-alarm residential fire at 37 Kings Canyon Drive, where plumbing work accidentally ignited a fire inside a wall. The fire quickly spread to the attic, resulting in a partial roof collapse. Firefighters rescued five dogs and two cats from the home. Fortunately, no residents were home at the time, and no injuries were reported.
The 911 call was received at 6:10 p.m., and the first alarm was dispatched at 6:11 p.m. Upon arrival, NOFD crews launched an aggressive interior attack and primary search. Due to the risk of structural collapse A second alarm was struck at 6:32 p.m. During their operation, they successfully located and rescued five dogs and two cats. All animals were evaluated by New Orleans Emergency Medical Services (NOEMS) and turned over to the residents in stable condition.
The fire originated behind a wall during plumbing work and extended vertically into the attic space. As the fire intensified, a portion of the roof collapsed. Despite challenging conditions, firefighters contained the blaze preventing it from spreading to neighboring houses.
The fire was brought under control at 7:24 p.m., and has been ruled accidental, with the determination to be plumbing conducted earlier in the evening.
