NOFD Responds to Three-Alarm Fire at Royal Sonesta Hotel

On Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 11:02 a.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to the Royal Sonesta Hotel on 300 Bourbon Street, after reports of a fire on the second floor in a storage room. Upon arrival fire personnel immediately initiated fire suppression and rescue operations. During search and rescue efforts, firefighters safely assisted an individual in a wheelchair from the fourth floor and evacuated two additional occupants from a second-floor balcony. As firefighting operations continued, the incident was upgraded to a second alarm at 11:13 a.m. and further escalated to a third alarm at 11:27 a.m. Firefighters were provided a master key to conduct thorough checks of the third and fourth floors, ensuring all hotel rooms were clear of guests or visitors. Through coordinated fire suppression and rescue efforts, crews successfully contained the blaze and confirmed that the hotel was safely evacuated.
This fire was placed under control at 11:44 a.m. Twenty-one NOFD units supported by fifty-two Fire Operations personnel were used to bring this incident under control. NOFD commends the quick action of fire personnel and the cooperation of hotel staff in ensuring the safety of all occupants. No casualties or injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
