NOFD Responds to Two-Alarm Fire at NOE Apartment Complex

On Friday, November 7, 2025, at 9:53 a.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to a reported fire at 12345 N. I-10 Service Rd. NOFD Fire Operations personnel arrived on the incident scene at the Carmel Brook Apartments, at 10:02 a.m., finding the left side of building 24 heavily involved in flames on the second and third floors. Life safety concerns and the possibility of fire quickly spreading in this large wood-framed, occupied structure, prompted the almost immediate request for a second alarm at 10:06 a.m.

Firefighters began both interior and exterior attacks on the apartment building, as arriving fire crews were directed to go door-to-door to make sure the entire building was evacuated. Six occupied apartments, housing thirteen residents, were affected by this incident. It was determined that the fire began near a sofa in a second-floor apartment and quickly spread by chimney to the third floor.

Eighteen NOFD units, supported by forty-eighty NOFD Fire Operations personnel, were used to bring this incident under control at 10:18 a.m. There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire is currently being investigated. The American Red Cross has been requested to assist those residents affected by this incident.
