On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 3:00 a.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to a reported “building fire” at the intersection of Poland Ave. and Chartres St. At 3:05 a.m., NOFD Fire Operations personnel arrived at the site of the former U.S. Naval Support Activity. Upon arrival, firefighters were confronted with a larger fire on the second floor of one of the buildings of this former U.S. Navy base. A second alarm was requested at 3:57 a.m., as efforts to contain this incident became more challenging.

Seventeen NOFD Fire Operations units, supported by forty-six NOFD Fire Ops personnel, were used to bring this incident under control at 5:16 a.m. There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire hasn’t yet been determined.
