Two-Alarm Fire at 618 Fern Street

The New Orleans Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at 618 Fern Street on the afternoon of December 15, 2025.
At approximately 3:19 p.m., the New Orleans Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a fire at the three-plex apartment building. Fire companies were dispatched immediately at 3:19 p.m., with the first arriving unit on scene at 3:26 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure.
All residents had safely evacuated the building prior to the arrival of the first fire company. Firefighters determined the fire involved two rooms of a second-floor apartment, with extension into the attic space. Due to the extent of the fire and to provide additional resources, a second alarm was requested at approximately 3:40 p.m.
The fire was brought under control at approximately 4:07 p.m. No civilian injuries were reported, and there were no reports of firefighter injuries. Four displaced residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire and the extent of damage remain under investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
