Two Residents Rescued from Three-Alarm Fire on Prytania St.
On Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 11:55 a.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to a reported building fire in the 3000 block of Prytania St. NOFD Fire Operations personnel arrived on the scene of 3028 Prytania St, a three-story apartment building, housing eight units and approximately ten residents, at 11:59 a.m. A second alarm was requested immediately, as flames were noticed coming from the second and third floors in the rear of the building. The probability of possible civilians being trapped, and the close proximity of exposed properties, prompted the request for a third alarm at 12:07 p.m.
Upon arrival firefighters began conducting a primary search of the building, going door-to-door making sure all residents had been evacuated. Two adult residents were safely rescued from a second-floor window, as flames and heavy smoke prohibited their exit from the building. Both were transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
Twenty-one units, supported by fifty-eight NOFD Fire Operations personnel were used to bring this incident under control at 12:54 p.m. While on the scene, New Orleans Fire Department Superintendent Roman Nelson commended our firefighters for a “job well done”. There were no other civilian or firefighter injuries reported, and the fire was confined to the area or origin (rear second and third floors). The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The New Orleans Police Department, New Orleans Emergency Medical Services, Entergy and the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness all responded to assist with the mitigation of this incident.
