TWO-ALARM FIRE ON CHEF MENTEUR HWY.

On Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 6:31 P.M., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to 6322 Chef Menteur Hwy. Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy flames and smoke coming from a room on the third floor at the front of the Super 8 Motel. Because of the occupancy and the high likelihood of people inside, a second alarm was struck for additional personnel. Firefighters successfully contained and confined the fire to the room of origin, preventing it from spreading to the rest of the building. It has been confirmed that 30 people were displaced, and the Red Cross was contacted to assist with their possible relocation. The cause of the fire has been identified as an electrical malfunction. No injuries were reported to occupants or firefighters at the time of the incident.
