April 15, 2026 | From New Orleans Fire Department
On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 3:04 p.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to a reported fire involving a residence 2802 St. Claude Ave., in the Bywater. The first NOFD unit arrived on the scene of 2800-02 St. Claude Ave. at 3:09 p.m., finding a large camel-backed, multi-unit dwelling with fire heavily involved in the rear of the building. Primary searches were conducted in all three units of the building as firefighters moved quickly to keep the fire contained to the area of origin, the upstairs rear. All residents were later accounted for, advising that all had exited prior to NOFD arrival. The size of the structure, and the proximity of occupied exposures, prompted a request for a second alarm contingent of Fire Operations units and personnel at 3:31 p.m.
Ten NOFD units, supported by thirty-three firefighters were used to bring this incident under control at 3:43 p.m. The three-unit dwelling housed four residents and most of the damage was contained to the unit in the rear. It is currently undetermined whether all four residents will remain displaced. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
