Fire Service Outreach for Young Girls: Carl Holmes EDI Partners with NOFD and BANOFF

The Carl Holmes Executive Development Institute (EDI), in collaboration with the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) and the Black Association of New Orleans Firefighters (BANOFF), hosted the 2nd Annual Carl Holmes EDI Youth Initiative on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in Room 168 of the Professional Schools & Sciences Building at Dillard University.

Members of the New Orleans Fire Department participated in the event, including Superintendent Roman Nelson, who spoke to the participants and encouraged the young women to pursue leadership opportunities within public safety.

The initiative introduced local young women from Young Ladies of NOLA and Chosen Vessel Dance School to the fire service through hands-on demonstrations and interactive learning sessions led by experienced fire service professionals. By connecting youth with role models in public safety, the program fostered curiosity, confidence, and leadership development in fields where women remain underrepresented.

This initiative reflects the New Orleans Fire Department’s continued commitment to community engagement, youth development, and fostering the next generation of leaders within the fire service.
