Early Morning Two-Alarm Extinguished by NOFD

On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 5:19 a.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to a reported fire involving a dwelling in the 1600 block of N. Prieur St. The first NOFD unit arrived on the scene at 5:24 a.m. A working fire was confirmed in an abandoned single-family dwelling at 1625 N. Prieur St. Occupied duplexes, to the immediate left and right, were evacuated as a precaution to the fire extending to these exposed properties. A second alarm was requested at 5:30 a.m. when the left exterior wall of the fire building collapsed onto the dwelling at 1619-21 N. Prieur St. The dwelling at 1627-29 N. Prieur St. suffered very light damage to its adjacent exterior wall. It must be noted that our firefighters did an excellent job of keeping this fire contained to the structure of origin, considering the proximity of homes exposed to this fire.

 

Eighteen NOFD units supported by forty-eight Fire Operations personnel were dispatched to this incident, bringing it under control at 5:51 a.m. There were no NOFD or civilian injuries reported. Neighbors reported seeing an adult female frequenting the abandoned dwelling. Primary and secondary searches of the structure were negative for occupants. Entergy and Delta Gas responded to assist with the mitigation of this incident.
