Two-Alarm Fire Displaces Five NOE Residents

On Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 12:29 a.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched on a reported fire involving a dwelling at 4746 Lonely Oak Dr. The first NOFD unit arrived on the scene of 4746-48 Lonely Oak Dr. at 12:36 a.m., finding a two-story, four-unit occupied dwelling with heavy flames visible in the second-floor rear of the building. Upon arrival firefighters were notified that all five residents had escaped safely. After considering the size of the residence and the risk to occupied exposures, a second alarm was requested at 12:43 a.m. Eighteen NOFD units, supported by approximately forty-seven Fire Operations, were dispatched to this incident. The fire was mostly contained to rear apartments, and placed under control at 1:17 a.m.
The resident in the apartment of origin stated that the fire was accidentally started by a lit cigarette butt when he dumped ashes into a trash can. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported. The American Red Cross has been requested to the scene to assist the displaced residents.
