Records and Identification Division

Core Services

The Records and Identification Division manages NOPD's documentation systems and provides vital services through specialized units:

Public Records Section maintains and provides copies of police reports to both officers and civilians. This section processes requests for:

  • Letters of Good Conduct
  • Background/Criminal History Checks
  • Releasable Police/Accident Reports

Criminal Records Section operates the Automated Fingerprint Identification System to process all submitted fingerprints.

Expungement Unit processes court-ordered expungements of adult arrests in Orleans Parish, typically taking 6-8 months to complete due to extensive research procedures.

Subpoena Unit handles all subpoenas, court orders, and specialized records requests by appointment only.

Special Officers Section issues commissions to qualified private security personnel after background checks and verification of credentials. Applicants must submit:

  • Completed commission application
  • Employer letter on company letterhead
  • ID and Social Security documentation
  • Current firearm qualification certificate
  • Fingerprint card
