When violence happens, the University Medical Center's Level 1 Trauma Center becomes more than just a hospital - it becomes a place of hope and healing. Their specially trained team is available 24/7, ready to help from the moment someone arrives at their doors.
We understand that healing from violence involves more than just medical care. The team at UMC steps in during these critical first hours to provide bedside emotional support and help families understand what comes next. They create safety plans to prevent future harm while connecting people with immediate resources they need. Most importantly, they stay with families throughout their entire journey of healing.
The center provides wraparound services to people whose lives have been disrupted by traumatic injury and violent crime. Services are available to any individual (age 13 or older) who has experienced a physical trauma, whether or not they received medical care through University Medical Center. Free services include one-on-one counseling with trauma specialists and practical help with needs like housing or jobs. Seeds of NOLA also serves family members and loved ones of those recovering from traumatic injury as well as individuals experiencing traumatic bereavement.
Think of us as your support team. We coordinate with hospital staff for your medical care, community organizations for additional support, and social services to meet your basic needs. Our network of care surrounds you with the help you need to rebuild and heal.
UMC and Seeds of NOLA Trauma Recovery Center teams help hundreds of New Orleans residents find their path to healing. They stay with you as long as you need them, offering support that respects your culture, background and personal journey.
Remember: Healing is possible, and you don't have to do it alone. All our services are free and confidential.
