New Orleans, LA – The City of New Orleans Department of Parks & Parkways is excited to announce that Jackson Square has once again been nominated for Best Public Square in the United States in USA Today's 10 Best Reader's Choice awards. This prestigious recognition highlights Jackson Square as one of the most iconic and beloved landmarks in the nation.

Located in the heart of the French Quarter and overlooking the scenic Mississippi River, Jackson Square, also known as the Place d'Armes, occupies 2.5 acres and attracts over 2 million visitors and locals annually. Designated a National Landmark in 1960, Jackson Square has long been admired for its beauty and historic significance. In 2012, the American Planning Association honored it as one of its “Great Places in America,” citing its accessibility, charm, and status as a vibrant gathering place.

Today, Jackson Square continues to be a popular site for weddings, formal photography sessions, and community events, drawing visitors from around the world.

In 2024, Jackson Square was voted the 9th best public square in the country by USA Today’s 10Best Reader’s Choice. The City of New Orleans is eager to improve on this ranking and hopes to secure the first-place spot in 2025.
