City of New Orleans Department of Parks & Parkways Announces Final Free Wood Chip Distribution Dates

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans Department of Parks & Parkways announces updated and abbreviated dates for its free wood chip distribution program. Wood chips will now be available to Orleans Parish residents on the following Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 1 Green Parade Lane, New Orleans, Louisiana:

  • April 11
  • April 18
  • April 25

These dates represent the final distribution opportunities, as the program will now conclude at the end of April.

The wood chips are generated from routine, citywide tree trimming operations and are part of the Department’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship. By repurposing vegetative debris into usable mulch, the Department continues its efforts to divert green waste from local landfills and promote sustainable practices throughout the community.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this free resource for landscaping, gardening, erosion control, and other outdoor projects.

Important Information for Participants:

  • Wood chips are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Residents must bring their own loading supplies, including shovels, gloves, bags, containers, and any other necessary equipment.
  • Staff will not be able to assist with loading.

This initiative supports the City’s broader sustainability goals while providing a practical benefit to residents.
