City of New Orleans Announces Laurence Square Park Restoration and Playground Improvements
The City of New Orleans Department of Parks & Parkways announces the upcoming temporary closure of Laurence Square Park for significant landscape restoration and playground improvements funded through the City’s Capital Bond Program.
Construction is scheduled to begin June 15, 2026, and is anticipated to take approximately 90 days to complete. The park is expected to reopen to the public on September 15, 2026, following a turf establishment period necessary to ensure the long-term success of the improvements.
The project includes comprehensive soil restoration and grading, installation of a new irrigation system, and full turf replacement throughout the park. The landscape plan incorporates Bermuda sod in sun-exposed areas and Zoysia sod in shaded sections to improve durability, resiliency, and overall turf performance. Additional enhancements will include tree pruning and fresh mulch installation throughout the park grounds.
As part of the overall investment in the site, the City will also complete resurfacing improvements to the adjacent playground, which are likewise funded through the Capital Bond Program.
