Brechtel Park Playground to Temporarily Close for Safety Surface Replacement Beginning June 29
NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans Department of Parks & Parkways announces the temporary closure of the playground at Brechtel Park beginning Monday, June 29, 2026, to allow for critical safety surface improvements.
The project will include demolition and removal of the existing safety surfacing, cleaning and preparation of the concrete base, and installation of a new playground safety surface designed to improve durability, accessibility, and overall user safety.
Construction is anticipated to take approximately 90 days, with completion expected by September 27, 2026, weather permitting.
During this time, the playground area will be inaccessible to the public. The surrounding park amenities will remain open and available for use.
“These improvements are part of our ongoing commitment to investing in safe, high-quality recreational spaces for New Orleans families,” said Michael Karam, Director of Parks & Parkways. “We appreciate the public’s patience as we complete this important work.”
Residents are encouraged to observe all posted signage and avoid the construction zone for their safety.
