Office of Police Secondary Employment: Supporting Officers and Our Community

The Office of Police Secondary Employment (OPSE) was established in 2012 as part of Mayor Mitch Landrieu's comprehensive police reform initiative. This independent office serves as the central hub for managing off-duty police services in New Orleans, operating under federal oversight guidelines that ensure accountability and transparency.

What OPSE Does for You: OPSE handles all the paperwork and coordination when businesses, events, or organizations need off-duty police officers for security services. Instead of individual officers managing their own secondary employment, our office streamlines the entire process.

Benefits for Everyone:

  • For Businesses: One point of contact for hiring qualified off-duty officers
  • For Officers: Administrative burden removed, allowing focus on primary police duties
  • For the Community: Professional oversight ensures quality service and proper accountability
  • For the City: Police resources remain focused on crime prevention and public safety

This system allows our police department to concentrate on protecting and serving New Orleans while providing residents and businesses access to professional security services when needed. Officers can supplement their income through approved secondary employment opportunities managed through proper oversight channels.
