Kids get free food this summer with SUN Bucks!

The SUN Bucks program is returning for 2025! SUN Bucks gives families a one-time payment of $120 for each eligible school-aged child (5-18 years old) to buy groceries during the summer break.

How do I sign up?

Good news! Your child will be automatically enrolled in SUN Bucks if they were born between August 8, 2006-July 1, 2019 and received SNAP, FITAP, KCSP, or income-based Medicaid benefits between July 1, 2024-August 8, 2025.

Some students will need to apply for the benefits to receive them. If your child attends one of the following schools, they will need to apply:

  • Mary Bethune Elementary Literature/Technology
  • Warren Easton Senior High School
  • Edward Hynes Charter School
  • Robert Russa Moton Charter School
  • Benjamin Franklin Elementary Math and Science

When will I receive my benefits?

SUN Bucks benefits will be loaded directly onto the EBT cards of eligible students in May 2025. For households not already enrolled in one of the programs mentioned above, benefits will arrive on a preloaded EBT card in a plain white envelope addressed to your child. NOTE: EBT cards will be sent to the mailing address that is on file, so applicants should be sure their address is up to date.
