Please see below for a running list of notices and updates concerning changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Hot Food Waiver Effective Through August 13, 2026

SNAP recipients be advised! You will be able to purchase eligible hot food items from SNAP-authorized retailers effective immediately through August 13, 2026. This includes:

• Rotisserie chicken
• Hot prepared soups and sandwiches
• Hot meals or hot food bars

We recommend that you check with your local store before shopping to ensure that they have updated their systems to allow these items to be purchased with SNAP. You can learn more about the SNAP Hot Food Waiver at ldh.la.gov.

SNAP Healthy Foods Waiver

As of February 18, 2026 SNAP recipients will no longer be able to purchase the following items using their SNAP funds:

• Soft drinks
• Energy drinks
• Candy

SNAP recipients will still be able to purchase items such as fruits and vegetables, meat, dairy, and bread with their benefits. For more information on the Healthy Food Waiver, such as definitions for each type of food that is no longer eligible for SNAP purchases, you can visit ldh.la.gov.
