Doxy PEP Guidance: Helping Providers and Community Members Prevent STIs

Louisiana has some of the highest rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the nation, ranking #1 for chlamydia, #2 for gonorrhea, and #8 for primary and secondary syphilis. Within Louisiana, New Orleans continues to experience some of the highest STI rates in the state. To help prevent new infections, the New Orleans Office of Health and Human Services (NOHHS) has developed local guidance on doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (doxy PEP)—a prescription antibiotic that can help prevent syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea when taken within 72 hours after sex or potential exposure.
