Residential Facilities Housing Seniors and Persons with Disabilities

In October 2021, New Orleans strengthened its commitment to resident safety by enhancing emergency preparedness requirements for residential facilities. This important ordinance ensures better communication and coordination between care facilities and city officials during emergencies.

Who This Affects:

  • Nursing homes
  • Senior residential communities, which is defined as "residential facility for seniors or persons with disabilities ("residential facility") shall mean any housing facility that is not licensed by the State of Louisiana and has six or more units of rental housing specifically designated for persons aged 55 years or older, persons with disabilities, and/or persons receiving permanent supportive housing services, including but not limited to those housing facilities that receive funding or financing support from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Residential facilities may also include homes for the aged and residential care facilities, as defined by the City of New Orleans Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance."
