Mobility & Safety Updates — Sept. 2025

DPW’s Mobility & Safety team is advancing key projects citywide — from participating in Bike Talks NOLA to support trail connectivity, to moving the Andrew Higgins Drive redesign into final design. Broad Street pedestrian improvements are nearly complete with a ribbon cutting planned, while the Morrison Road project is set to break ground this fall. The City is also working to secure additional funding to move forward with the Connecting New Orleans East project.

Community Connections — Sept. 2025 — Connecting with Residents Across New Orleans

This past month, the Department of Public Works joined job fairs, neighborhood meetings, and community events to share project updates, answer questions, and hear from residents. Highlights included discussions on streetlight repairs, bike and trail plans, and participation in the K20 Day of Service honoring the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

City Extends Ticket Amnesty Program Through September 30

The City’s Ticket Amnesty Program has been extended through September 30, giving drivers more time to pay old parking and traffic camera tickets without late fees. Visit nola.gov/nolatefees to pay or set up an interest-free payment plan before the deadline.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: TEMPORARY LANE SHIFT FOR ALLEN TOUSSIANT BOULEVARD BEGINS SEPTEMBER 15

The City of New Orleans announced that beginning Monday, September 15, the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor Barriere Construction Company will implement a temporary lane shift on the lakeside of Allen Toussaint Boulevard at Waldo Drive. The lane shift will last approximately two weeks to accommodate essential waterline installation at the intersection. Motorists may experience disruptions in normal traffic patterns while the intersection is undergoing active construction. However, crews will ensure access is permitted in local areas where it is safe to travel.

***UPDATE*** TEMPORARY LANE REDUCTION: THE 2400 THROUGH 2900 BLOCKS OF SOUTH CLAIBORNE AVENUE

Beginning Thursday, Sept. 11, weather permitting, the Office of Resilience & Sustainability’s contractor, RNGD Infrastructure, LLC, will implement a temporary lane reduction beginning at the intersection of S. Claiborne Avenue and Second Street to complete roadway repairs for the DPS01 Watershed (Broadmoor HMGP) Drainage Upgrades and Green Infrastructure Project (Phase I).   

The temporary closure will remain in effect until 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17. Traffic on S. Claiborne Avenue will be shifted into the left lane until Toledano Street, where all three lanes will be open for travel. During this project, the contractor will be working from 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday through Friday.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: CLOSURE ON ALLEN TOUSSAINT FROM VICKSBURG ST TO GENERAL HAIG ST

The City of New Orleans announced that beginning Thursday, September 11, 2025, the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor, CMG Pipelines, Inc., will temporarily close the westbound lane of Allen Toussaint Boulevard through Monday, October 6, 2025, to accommodate utility work in the 7100 block of General Diaz Street. During this period, the eastbound lane of Allen Toussaint Boulevard will be reconfigured to support two-way traffic. These temporary closures are necessary to complete essential roadway and utility improvements, ensuring long-term safety and durability of the infrastructure.

*UPDATED** Temporary Roadway Closure of Magazine St (Phillip St to First St)

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, the City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works’ contractor, Hard Rock Construction, LLC., will temporarily close the 2300 Magazine St. approximately one month to accommodate utilities and roadway construction as part of the Iberville, Tulane-Gravier, LGD, CBD Group A construction project. Public safety is our top priority; signage and traffic control measures such as signage and fencing will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.
