Effective April 2021 work on the Lower Ninth Ward Northwest Group B project has been paused. The work is more than 80% complete and expected to resume before the close of the year. Residents will be notified of remaining scope work and new project timelines prior to work resuming.
Fleming Construction crews are currently 60% complete with the Lower Ninth Ward Northeast Group B infrastructure improvement project. Crews have completed 90% of the waterline work and over 80% of the drainage work. Paving work has been completed on parts of Tupelo and Law streets, with expected completion of paving on North Tonti and Nina streets by mid-October, weather permitting.
More than 70% of the waterline work has been completed on the Little Woods Group A project. While there are some remaining blocks, paving is scheduled to be completed on Wave, Duane, Branch, Sandy Cove, Pebble, Jon Lee, Scottwood and Alabama streets in October. Sidewalks, driveways and curbs in both Kingswood and Lake Carmel subdivisions are also expected to be complete in November.
Boh Bros. Construction, LLC just started working on the full depth reconstruction of Spanish Fort Boulevard in the $2.8M Lake Vista Group B Project. Streets, curb, sidewalks, disability ramps and utilities are being fixed on Spanish Fort, Jay and Hawk streets; and will be completed in summer 2022. The southbound lane of Spanish Fort Blvd is currently closed while the northbound lane has been opened to two-way traffic in order to service the schools and businesses in the community.
Beverly Construction Co. just completed construction on Cartier Street as it connects to Mirabeau Avenue. Volkert Engineering also included a new drainage system into the $3.9M Filmore South B project design. The new drainage system will also be a key benefit, in coordination with the adjacent Mirabeau Water Garden Project, to alleviate flooding in the neighborhood.
Fleming Construction LLC is currently spreading a base course on Alfred Street in preparation for street paving in the $4.2M Filmore North Group B project. This project, which is approximately 80% complete, will provide better drainage and smoother roads for Gentilly and Lake Vista residents. Several utility lines are also being relocated and updated in order to prepare for street reconstruction.
The $19.1M Pines Village Group A project started in January of 2020 and is expected to finalize in winter of 2021, weather permitting. Crews working in the area of KIPP East Community School along Virgilian and E. Hermes streets are working to minimize impact and expedite progress alongside the school. Pavement work and roadway restoration alongside the school is expected to complete the first week of October. Sewer and drainage line replacement and repair is over 90% complete for this project allowing crews to focus on roadway removal and restoration near the school. Paving, sidewalks and driveway apron repairs will finalize on Stemway Drive, East Hermes, and Virgilian streets in mid-October
The $10.1M Milneburg Group B Full Reconstruction project started work in December of 2020 and is expected to complete construction in winter 2021. This project is completed in parallel with the Milneburg Group A project and addresses the roadway infrastructure in key areas of the neighborhood where full reconstruction is required, specifically Mandeville Street and Vienna Street near Pierre A Capdau at Avery Alexander Elementary School. High water levels and heavy rain contributed significant delays to closed circuit television sewer and drain line explorations that are necessary for performing repair and replacement. Waterline work on this project is complete. Workers will continue to replace driveway aprons along Spain, New York and Marigny streets.
The $15.4M Milneburg Group A project, which began construction in December 2020, is making progress and utilizing targeted weekend work to remain on schedule with this roadway restoration project. Waterline tie-ins are planned to continue throughout October – residents are being notified regarding test closures and other service interruptions related to this waterline and drainage infrastructure work that will progress following waterline testing. Crews will complete waterline testing along Franklin and Elysian avenues and other major neighborhood corridors ahead of planned tie-ins. The project is expected to complete in winter 2021.
Command Construction Industries, LLC crews are performing sewer line replacements on the 1900 block of St. Ann Street near North Prieur Street, as well as on North Rocheblave Street between Dumaine Street and St. Philip Street as part of the Treme-Lafitte Group B project.
