The City and Sewerage and Water Board began a $2.3M full-depth reconstruction (replacement of the roadway and underground utilities) project on Conti between Bourbon and Royal streets in March.

Inclement weather and water leaks have contributed to delays on the $6.3M Mid-City Group A infrastructure and road improvement project. Currently crews are working on paving areas with newly repaired water leaks and sewer lines. This remaining work has shifted completion to October 2021. Final walkthroughs are expected to begin later this month.
Working in close collaberation with Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, Barriere Construction continues to address critical waterline work on First Street on the Central City Group A project.
In an effort to address the construction issues on the East Riverside, Garden District, Irish Channel, St Thomas Group A project, the Department of Public Works (DPW) made the decision to remove more than 120 blocks and re-package them to be bid to a different contractor. The current contractor, Hard Rock Construction, LLC., will close all open areas on the project and complete work on blocks that have already begun. There will be no new excavation on blocks without work. The new date for completion is mid December 2021.
The $9.1M Navarre Group A project, which began construction in February 2020, continues to move forward as scheduled. Contractor Hard Rock Construction Co., LLC has completed waterline tie-ins and drainage work ahead of asphalt installation on the 5500 and 5600 blocks of Catina Street. Crews are moving to General Diaz Street following the completion of paving on Catina Street in early October. Significant progress on the project was made during the summer of 2021 and work is nearing 90% completion – the project is expected to finalize in fall 2021, weather permitting. Coordination is ongoing with residents to ensure that site clean-up and final, punch list items are addressed by the contractor before the project is completed.
The $15.3M Hollygrove, Leonidas Group A project began construction in April 2020. Contractor Wallace C. Drennan, Inc. is replacing and repairing sewer lines along the project and will move into deeper sewer repairs as water levels subside. Some sewer line work has been halted on this project due to high river levels and heavy rainfall, which limited the ability to certify sewer repairs. Work is resuming in those areas as the river levels decrease. Crews have continued to work on roadway removal sitewide and asphalt repaving along Hollygrove Street.
The Octavia Street (Freret-Claiborne) project was set to begin construction between April and June 2021; however, due to the Louisiana Department of Transportation (LA DOTD) permitting process to utilize South Claiborne neutral ground for the staging of materials and equipment and delays from Hurricane Ida, crews kicked off construction on October 25.
Fleming Construction crews have completed sewer line point repairs, removal and replacement of exisitng sewer lines, and drainage line improvements on full-depth reconstruction sequences, St. John Court and Allard Boulevard. Crews have now tied in the new waterline to the existing water supply on Allard Boulevard.
The $7M West End Group B project kicked off construction in June 2021. The contractor Palmisano Construction, LLC is installing sewer and waterlines along 10th and 12th streets, which will continue for the next few months. Water main pressure testing is planned throughout the area, and the project team will notify residents 48 before any planned water disruption.
The $11.9M Black Pearl / East Carrollton Group A project, which began construction in August 2020, continues making progress. Contractor Hard Rock Construction Co., LLC is restoring roadways on Maple, Cohn, Birch, Fern and Short streets. Sewer and water line replacement work began in the 200 block of Hillary street and will continue to the 300 block. In the coming months, work will also include sidewalk and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant ramps throughout the project. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2022, weather permitting.
