TRAFFIC ADVISORY: TEMPORARY STREET CLOSURES ON BIENVILLE STREET FOR WORK IN EXCHANGE ALLEY

The City of New Orleans announced today that, effective immediately, the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor, Boh Bros. Construction Co., will temporarily close the 600 block of Bienville Street (Royal St. - Chartres St.) to vehicular traffic. The closure will remain in place through end of the week to accommodate roadwork in Exchange Alley.

2025 Bond Proposition: Investing in Better Streets and Drainage — Through Existing Taxes

The City of New Orleans is proposing a $510 million bond program to fund major improvements to streets, drainage, public facilities, and affordable housing, without raising taxes. If approved by voters this November, the bonds would be sold in 2026 to advance long-overdue infrastructure improvements across all council districts. Proposed projects include upgrades to major corridors such as Harrison Avenue, Washington Avenue, Franklin Avenue, and Lake Forest Boulevard, supporting safer, more resilient neighborhoods citywide.

Safer Streets Ahead: Pedestrian Safety Upgrades Along N. Rampart & N. Peters Streets

The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works (DPW), in partnership with the French Quarter Management District (FQMD), has completed a series of safety upgrades along N. Rampart and N. Peters Streets. The project added bright green bike lanes, more than a dozen “Stop for Pedestrians” signs, high-visibility flex posts, brick-red painted corner zones, and two pedestrian-activated flashing beacons near Armstrong Park. These improvements enhance walkability, protect cyclists and pedestrians, and support the City’s Vision Zero initiative to eliminate traffic-related fatalities. Together, they make the French Quarter safer, more connected, and more welcoming for everyone.

Roadwork Rundown — Oct. 2025

The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works (DPW) is advancing multiple infrastructure projects across neighborhoods citywide to improve streets, sidewalks, and drainage systems. From roadway resurfacing and alleyway reconstruction to sidewalk and ADA accessibility upgrades, these projects are building a stronger, safer, and more resilient New Orleans.

ADDITIONAL ROAD CLOSURE IN EAST CARROLLTON AREA

On Tuesday, Oct. 7, starting at from 9 a.m. Willow Street between Lowerline Street and Adams Street will be closing two blocks to vehicular traffic to facilitate roadway restoration, by Sewer & Water Board contractor, and a water tie in, by Department of Public Works contractor. Safety is our many priorities and we are encouraging everyone to follow all traffic signage and construction directions. Traffic will reopen by 6 p.m. on Oct. 9. The water line will affect the Adams Street (Zimple Street to Jeanette Street) and Willow Street (S Carrollton Avenue to Lowerline Street) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8. We request when the water is restored to this area, please run your faucets for 5 minutes to flush out the lines before resuming regular use.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Full Closure of 5700 Block of Magazine Street for Underground Utility Work

The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works (DPW) is notifying residents and motorists of a full closure of the 5700 block of Magazine Street beginning at 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, and continuing through 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

A Smarter Way to Replace Pipes: Trenchless Rehabilitation

Not every underground pipe repair/replacement means tearing up the street. DPW and SWBNO sometimes use trenchless pipe rehabilitation, a method that repairs water and sewer lines through small access points. This approach minimizes disruption, reduces noise and dust, finishes work faster, and extends the life of existing pipes — helping keep neighborhoods open and connected.

TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE: THE 800, 900, AND 1000 BLOCKS OF ORANGE STREET

On Wednesday, Oct. 1, weather permitting, the Office of Resilience & Sustainability’s contractor, RNGD Infrastructure, LLC, will implement a temporary road closure to  800, 900, and 1000 blocks of Orange Street between Magazine Street and Constance Street to begin drainage and roadway repairs for the DPS01 Watershed (Broadmoor HMGP) Drainage Upgrades and Green Infrastructure Project (Phase I).

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: TEMPORARY LANE CLOSURES ON HARRISON AVENUE FOR ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works (DPW) announces that beginning the week of Monday, Sept. 29 at 7 a.m. crews will start patching, brick crosswalk removal, and restoration work on Harrison Avenue from West End Boulevard to Argonne Boulevard; this process is anticipated to last approximately three weeks.
