Mobility & Safety Updates — Oct. 2025

The Department of Public Works (DPW) continues to advance projects that make New Orleans streets safer and more connected for everyone. Recent efforts include the Andrew Higgins Drive redesign, new pedestrian safety upgrades along Broad Street, and continued planning for the Connecting New Orleans East trail network. The Mobility and Safety Team also partnered with the Office of Resilience and Sustainability for Bike to Work Day, highlighting the benefits of active transportation and the City’s commitment to Complete Streets.

Community Connections — Oct. 2025—

In September, the Department of Public Works (DPW) engaged with residents, businesses, and community partners through public meetings, Coffee on Your Corner, and the City Council’s Public Works Committee Meeting. The department also hosted pre-construction meetings for the Desire Area Group C and D and Lakeview North–West Group C projects to inform residents about upcoming work. DPW remains committed to keeping the public informed as infrastructure improvements continue citywide.

DPW Spotlight — Oct. 2025 — Ground Transportation Bureau and Cheryl Adams

The Ground Transportation Bureau (GTB) regulates New Orleans’ for-hire transportation industry and ensures vehicles meet safety standards. This season, GTB worked tirelessly to inspect and clear every school bus before the school year, process permits under tight deadlines, and verify compliance. Special thanks go to Cheryl Adams for her leadership in keeping the permitting process on track and to the Brake Tag Office team for maintaining road safety through ongoing inspections. Together, GTB’s efforts help keep New Orleans moving safely and reliably.

Free Short-Term Parking for Early Voters at City Hall

From Sept. 27–Oct. 4 (excluding Sunday), the City is offering one hour of free parking near City Hall for early voters. Look for posted signs on LaSalle (Poydras–Gravier) and Perdido (LaSalle–Loyola) while you cast your ballot.

Mobility & Safety Updates — Sept. 2025

DPW’s Mobility & Safety team is advancing key projects citywide — from participating in Bike Talks NOLA to support trail connectivity, to moving the Andrew Higgins Drive redesign into final design. Broad Street pedestrian improvements are nearly complete with a ribbon cutting planned, while the Morrison Road project is set to break ground this fall. The City is also working to secure additional funding to move forward with the Connecting New Orleans East project.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: TEMPORARY LANE SHIFT FOR ALLEN TOUSSIANT BOULEVARD BEGINS SEPTEMBER 15

The City of New Orleans announced that beginning Monday, September 15, the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor Barriere Construction Company will implement a temporary lane shift on the lakeside of Allen Toussaint Boulevard at Waldo Drive. The lane shift will last approximately two weeks to accommodate essential waterline installation at the intersection. Motorists may experience disruptions in normal traffic patterns while the intersection is undergoing active construction. However, crews will ensure access is permitted in local areas where it is safe to travel.
