St. Charles Ave. Project moves into its new phase of construction

The $4.3M Patch, Mill and Overlay (repaving) Project on St. Charles Ave. moved into its second phase of construction immediately after Mardi Gras 2017. This $4.3M project is a joint effort between the City of New Orleans and Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.

Jackson Ave. Project nears completion

The City’s construction contractor, Hard Rock Construction, LLC is approximately 99 percent complete with the $4.8M Jackson Ave. Resurfacing Project between S. Claiborne Ave. to Tchoupitoulas St. The overall project began in September 2016 and is expected to be completed in May 2017.

South Johnson St. and Melodia Court project completion near

The full-depth S. Johnson and Melodia Court Reconstruction Project is progressing well. The construction contractor has begun pouring curbs and sidewalks and the Sewerage & Water Board has completed most of the waterline tie-ins for the new utilities. Construction crews are expected to complete work by late Spring.

Lakeview North Group A set to break ground early May

The first FEMA-funded program in the Capital Improvement Program, Lakeview North Group A, is set to start early May. This $2.3M project was designed by Lambert Consultants and is being constructed by Hard Rock Construction, LLC.

Sewerage and Water Board Wins Two Awards in March 2017

In March 2017 the Sewerage and Water Board was awarded the Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) Municipality Achievement Award in Community Environmental Outreach for its Growing Water Literacy Program.

Also, SWB’s “Water Dogz” competitive operations team won two First Place state titles at the Regional Water Environment Association Annual Conference. The Dogz took home a First Place win in the Maintenance Event and First Place in the Safety Event in Lafayette, LA.

Construction of the third phase of Fleur de Lis Dr. is well under way

Construction of the third phase of Fleur de Lis Dr. between 30th St. and Old Hammond Hwy. in the West End neighborhood is well under way. The traditionally northbound travel lane is currently closed between 30th and Portland streets as crews replace the existing sewer line.

New Orleans Aims to Double Bicycling Over Next 3 Years

People for Bikes, a national non-profit organization that promotes bicycling, has announced that New Orleans will be one of ten communities participating in the Big Jump Project. Big Jump is a new initiative supporting the City of New Orleans and community partners in creating a network of “low-stress” bikeways such as protected bike lanes, bike boulevards, and shared use paths.

Michoud Boulvard reconstruction project scheduled to begin in spring

Village de L’est residents should be on the lookout for work later this spring. Cycle Construction Company, LLC, has been awarded a $3.8 million contract to reconstruct Michoud Blvd. from Chef Menteur Hwy. to Dwyer Rd. More specific construction details will be available during a pre-construction community meeting.
