The City of New Orleans & Sewerage and Water Board began the $6M French Quarter Infrastructure Improvement Project on April 24, 2017 as part of the Citywide Public Safety Improvement Program. Central City residents that typically use S. Galvez St. to access the CBD from the Uptown area should plan to use S. Broad St. and S. Claiborne Ave. for next several months. The first FEMA-funded program in the Capital Improvement Program, Lakeview North Group A, is set to start early May. This $2.3M project was designed by Lambert Consultants and is being constructed by Hard Rock Construction, LLC.
In March 2017 the Sewerage and Water Board was awarded the Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) Municipality Achievement Award in Community Environmental Outreach for its Growing Water Literacy Program.
Also, SWB’s “Water Dogz” competitive operations team won two First Place state titles at the Regional Water Environment Association Annual Conference. The Dogz took home a First Place win in the Maintenance Event and First Place in the Safety Event in Lafayette, LA.
Construction of the third phase of Fleur de Lis Dr. between 30th St. and Old Hammond Hwy. in the West End neighborhood is well under way. The traditionally northbound travel lane is currently closed between 30th and Portland streets as crews replace the existing sewer line.
