Construction of the third phase of Fleur de Lis Dr. between 30th St. and Old Hammond Hwy. in the West End neighborhood is well under way. The existing sewer force main has been removed from the traditionally north bound travel lane and crews are using the same trench to install the new water line. Water line work is approximately 50 percent complete. Drainage work will follow water line installation.The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2018.
The Lakeview North Group A project began on May 12, 2017. This $2.3M FEMA project was designed by Lambert Consultants and is being constructed by Hard Rock Construction LLC. This project will address damaged sidewalks, driveway aprons, and curbs within the public right-of-way.
Sewerage and Water Board representatives met with members of the Carrollton / Riverbend Neighborhood Association this month to update them on the construction of two elevated water towers at the nearby Carrollton Water Purification Plant. SWB engineers are installing two water tanks at the Carrollton Plant to act as water hammers. A water hammer is a pressure surge or wave caused when water is forced to stop or change direction suddenly.
The Patch, Mill and Overlay (repaving) project on St. Charles Ave. continues to make significant strides toward completion. Crews recently repaved a complicated area of the road with minimal disruption to residents.
The full-depth St. Johnson and Melodia C .reconstruction project is nearing completion. Rubion Roads & Streets has completed sidewalk and driveway work and are preparing to pour asphalt in the next week.
It was all smiles at Sewerage & Water Board’s monthly Board meeting. The S&WB Water Dogz received yet another operations team victory, this time in Texas. This is their third state championship win.
The Department of Public Works is currently piloting use of metal screens and filters to help reduce the likelihood that leaves, grass clippings and other undesirable debris can enter catch basins and the City’s storm drain system. Earlier this month, DPW worked with a vendor to install custom made BioClean screens on two catch basins in the French Quarter.
Boh Bros. Construction Co., LLC has completed building the temporary pedestrian access bridge in Joe W. Brown Memorial Park over the north lagoon. The temporary bridge allows walkers, joggers and runners to continue to recreate in the park while the existing bridge is being replaced.
The long-awaited Michoud Blvd. reconstruction project is scheduled to begin in early June and will last about one year. The $3.8M reconstruction project includes reconstructing the portion of Michoud Blvd. from Chef Menteur Hwy. to Dwyer Rd. The project was designed by Evans-Graves Engineers, Inc. and will be built by Cycle Construction Company, LLC.
The Gravier St. Reconstruction project near the Falstaff Building is now complete. The project, which spanned between S. Galvez and S. Broad streets helps improve juror access to the Orleans Parish Courthouse and resident access to the Falstaff Building.
