S. Galvez St. reconstruction project progressing on schedule

Command Construction Industries, LLC crews have completed installing the new water line on the traditionally river bound travel lane of S. Galvez St. in Central City. New drainage lines have also been installed between Toledano and Fourth St., making the $5.4M reconstruction project approximately 15 percent complete.

Substantial underground utility work moves S. Johnson & Melodia Ct. Full Reconstruction Project closer to completion

Work is progressing well on the S. Johnson and Melodia Ct. project; construction is approximately 90 percent complete.

Work continues on St. Charles Avenue

Work continues on the St. Charles Ave. project as crews shift from the curb side of the roadway to the median (or high lane). Construction is approximately 56 percent complete.

Magnolia Bridge refurbishment project currently out to bid

The construction contract to refurbish the Magnolia Bridge, which crosses Bayou St. John near Cabrini High School, is currently out for public bid and scheduled to open on Sept. 13, 2017.

Wisner Bridge construction slightly delayed, detour remains in effect

Reconstruction of the Wisner Bridge over I-610 is slightly delayed and the detour remains in effect. Construction of the new $19.5M bridge began in December 2015. It was originally scheduled to be completed this spring; however, during construction, the Department of Transportation and Development determined that the finger joints, which connect sections of the bridge deck together, did not fit properly. As a result, the designer is implementing corrective measures to ensure public safety for the design life of the bridge.  This is expected to delay completion of the bridge until September 30, 2017.  This new date will allow the bridge to be open for use by the pedestrians and bicyclists, as well as vehicular traffic at the same time.

Henry Clay drainage improvement project underway

The Department of Public Works is currently working with Barriere Construction Co., LLC to improve drainage on Henry Clay Ave. between St. Charles Ave. and Hurst St.

Fleur de Lis Phase III project water line installation nearly completed

Command Construction Industries, LLC crews are 15 percent complete with the Fleur de Lis Dr. Phase III reconstruction between 30th St. and Old Hammond Hwy in the West End neighborhood.

There are currently three crews working on site and construction work is progressing well, though inclement weather has added days to the project schedule.

Crews making significant progress as project resumes in Lakeview

Work is back on track at the Lakeview North Group A project.  Richard C. Lambert Consultants and Hard Rock Construction LLC had been awaiting approvals to adjust the scope of work in order ensure constructability and positive drainage.

SWBNO emergency crews quickly repair major leaks across the city

Earlier this month, residents at West End Boulevard and Jewel Street were awakened in the middle of the night by the sound of water slamming into a house from a main break.  Luckily for the occupants, a huge tree protected their property from receiving anything more than superficial damage.
