The Department of Public Works (DPW) continues to make steady progress on infrastructure improvements throughout the city's neighborhoods. These projects strengthen streets, sidewalks, and drainage systems, supporting safer travel and more resilient communities for residents and visitors alike.
The DPW772 Right of Way Improvements project is addressing critical street and sidewalk repairs in several areas of the city. This ongoing work includes roadway patching, resurfacing / re-striping, sidewalk and driveway restoration, and the installation of ADA-compliant curb ramps to improve pedestrian accessibility.
Crews have completed paving operations along Orleans Avenue and are preparing to move into Moss Street to complete the next segment of improvements. Pavement striping crews are scheduled to begin work on both corridors by the end of September. These improvements will improve ride quality and provide safer pedestrian access along heavily traveled corridors.

Alleyway Construction Projects
DPW’s ongoing alleyway reconstruction projects aim to regrade alleyways at various locations.
Northwest Quadrant: Construction in this area was recently completed. View the project page here.
Southwest Quadrant: Work began in early September 2025. Crews are moving eastward from the Catina Alleyway area toward Canal Street. Residents and business owners will receive advance Notices of Work before construction begins near their property. Visit the project page here.
Sidewalk Construction Projects
DPW is leading a series of citywide sidewalk improvement projects to improve pedestrian access and meet ADA standards.
DPW782 – ROW Sidewalk Improvements #1: Construction continues in Zones 1, 4, and 5, focusing on the removal and replacement of damaged sidewalks and the installation of ADA-compliant curb ramps.
DPW783, DPW784, and DPW785 – ROW Sidewalk Improvements #2–4: Bids have closed, and the contracting process is underway. These projects will expand the sidewalk program into new areas beginning in 2025 and continuing into 2026, ensuring consistent standards citywide.
DPW 773: Right of Way Improvements
The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works is currently performing improvements as part of the DPW773: Right of Way (ROW) Improvements project. The project includes roadway patching, street resurfacing/re-striping, sidewalk restoration, driveway repairs, and the installation of ADA-compliant ramps at various locations across the City.
Construction is currently active on Exchange Alley, behind the Hotel Monteleone, where crews are performing resurfacing, installing new lighting, and upgrading the drainage system. The alleyway will remain impassable through early November 2025 to allow safe and efficient construction progress.

DPW771: Asphalt ROW Improvements
The Department of Public Works (DPW) is making improvements through the DPW771: Right of Way Asphalt Improvements Project. Crews are working on roadway restoration, milling and overlay, sidewalk repairs, and curb improvements at different locations in the project area.
Recent and active work includes:
Canal Street (N. Claiborne – City Park): Asphalt work complete; final pavement replacement at Norman Francis Parkway scheduled for early October 2025.
North Galvez Street (Canal – St. Louis): Roadway removal and curb resetting underway, followed by improvements near Hey! Café, Skeeta Hawk Brewery, and Flour Moon Bagels. The improvements to the asphalt between Broad Street and North D’Orgenois Street are expected to last 2-3 weeks
Harrison Avenue (West End – Argonne): Temporary lane closures for patching and crosswalk restoration through mid-October.

DPW775: Concrete ROW Improvements
The DPW775 Right of Way Concrete Improvement Project, designed to improve roadway conditions and enhance pedestrian safety across New Orleans, is currently underway. The project focuses on concrete roadway panel replacements, sidewalk repairs, and curb upgrades at multiple locations.
Recent and ongoing work includes:
Completed improvements at Woodland Drive and Tullis Drive, English Turn Parkway, and Eton Street at MacArthur Boulevard.
Johnny Jackson Jr. Boulevard (formerly Louisa Street): Concrete panel replacements, curb replacements, and limited sidewalk underway through October 2025.
Concrete panel replacements on NO Hammond Highway and Pontchartrain Boulevard between NO Hammond and Fillmore Avenue.
New concrete work beginning on Canal Boulevard from the I-610 interchange to Fillmore Avenue; this work will continue for 3–4 weeks, weather dependent.

Lake Terrace & Oaks Group B and C
This FEMA-funded project began in July 2025 and is expected to be completed by Fall 2026, weather permitting. The work includes full reconstruction of 5 blocks, featuring subsurface utility repairs, surface restoration, and accessibility improvements.
Crews are currently active on 6200 block of Bertha Street, where all subsurface utility repairs have been completed, and crews have transitioned to roadway restoration. During this phase, construction activities will occur from sidewalk to sidewalk. Roadway restoration is anticipated to continue through early December 2025, weather permitting.

Lakeview North Group F and G
This FEMA-funded project began in June 2025 and is scheduled for completion by Summer 2026, weather permitting. The work includes full reconstruction of 14 blocks, featuring subsurface repairs, surface restoration, and streetscape enhancements.
Current construction activities include:
6900 Colbert Street: The project team is coordinating with the Sewerage and Water Board and Mount Carmel Academy to perform a waterline tie-in. Once complete, drain line work will follow.
6800 Vicksburg Street: Drain line work is ongoing, with roadway restoration to follow shortly after.
6500–6700 General Diaz Street: Sewer work is in progress. Waterline tie-ins are still needed before roadway restoration can begin. Sewer work at the Filmore intersection has been completed.
7100 General Diaz Street: Waterline work is ongoing, with other utility installations to follow.

Desire Group D & Desire Group C
The Desire Group C and Desire Group D projects are FEMA-funded projects, designed to improve 110 blocks within the Desire area, spanning Florida Avenue to Chef Menteur Highway.
Crews began preliminary work in October 2025, including CCTV inspection of utility lines and water valve test closures to confirm infrastructure conditions before full construction begins. Once underway, these projects will reconstruct roadways, upgrade drainage systems, and add ADA-compliant sidewalks and ramps to improve neighborhood connectivity.

Audubon Group C
This FEMA-funded project is scheduled to begin in mid-October 2025 and be completed by Summer 2026, weather permitting. The project will improve 4 blocks and includes full reconstruction, covering subsurface repairs, surface restoration, and streetscape enhancements within the project limits, including the 800–1100 blocks of Arabella Street.
A community meeting was held on September 29, 2025. The presentation can be viewed here. Construction is currently mobilizing, and crews are scheduled to begin work in the 800 block of Arabella Street. Notices will be distributed to affected residents prior to work beginning.

LNW North West Group C
This FEMA-funded project began in October 2025 and is scheduled for completion by Spring 2027, weather permitting. The project will improve 15 blocks and includes full reconstruction. Work will cover subsurface repairs, surface restoration, and streetscape enhancements at various locations within the project limits, including North Galvez Street, Flood Street, North Derbigny Street, and Reynes Street.
A community meeting was held on September 25, 2025. The presentation can be viewed here. Crews began construction on the 1800 block of Andry Street in early October 2025.

St. Anthony East/West Group B and C
This FEMA-funded project was awarded in August 2025 and is scheduled for completion by Spring 2027, weather permitting. The project will improve 16 blocks and includes full reconstruction, covering subsurface repairs, surface restoration, and streetscape enhancements at various locations within the project limits, including New York Street, Elysian Fields Avenue, Allen Toussaint Boulevard, and London Avenue.
Crews mobilized in early September 2025 and began work on the 6200 blocks of Waldo Drive and Wadsworth Drive. The construction team is currently completing subsurface utility repairs, including water, sewer, and drainage work.
