Traffic Advisory: Rolling Lane Reductions Scheduled on St. Charles Avenue Beginning July 31
NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works (DPW) advises residents and motorists that roadway improvement work will begin on Friday, July 31, 2026, along St. Charles Avenue between Jefferson Avenue and Napoleon Avenue as part of DPW Project No. 771, an ongoing initiative to improve roadway conditions throughout the city.
Beginning July 31, DPW contractor Hardrock Construction Co. LLC will begin milling and asphalt overlay operations along the corridor. Work will occur as a rolling operation and is expected to continue through September 11, 2026, weather permitting.
Construction will be completed in phases to maintain traffic through the corridor. Crews will first mill and pave the parking lane before moving to the adjacent travel lane. This process will continue block by block throughout the project limits.
Throughout construction:
- One travel lane in each direction will remain open at all times.
- On-street parking will be prohibited within active work zones.
- Temporary lane reductions and traffic delays should be expected as work progresses.
- Traffic control personnel will be on site to safely manage traffic and accommodate larger vehicles, if necessary.
No Parking signs have been placed throughout the project limits and will be strictly enforced during active construction. Vehicles parked within signed work zones may be ticketed and towed to allow crews to safely complete the work.
Construction is scheduled to take place daily from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., weather permitting. Residents, businesses, and motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the area, follow all posted traffic control devices and instructions from traffic control personnel, and allow additional travel time.
The City of New Orleans appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as these roadway improvements are completed. Construction schedules are weather dependent and may change due to unforeseen conditions.
