TRAFFIC ADVISORY: SINGLE LANE CLOSURE ON PALMETTO STREET AT CHERRY STREET

NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans announced that beginning Monday, June 15, 2026, Department of Public Works (DPW), in partnership with the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans and Barriere Construction, will begin utility work and roadway work as part of the BW Cooper, Gert Town, Dixon Group A & D infrastructure project. Traffic flow on north-bound Palmetto Street will shift from two lanes to one lane at the intersection of Cherry Street. During this period, residents are encouraged to utilize alternate travel routes when possible.

This work is part of the $16.6M BW Cooper, Gert Town, Dixon Group A and D joint infrastructure project between the Department of Public Works and the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans. Once complete, residents will experience improved drainage, repaired streets, curbs, and sidewalks, and the installation of ADA-compliant curb ramps at intersections. The project is scheduled to be fully completed by Fall 2027, weather permitting. Parking impacts are anticipated in the construction area for the duration of the project. “No Parking” signs will be posted in advance, and motorists are encouraged to follow posted restrictions to help ensure a smooth and safe construction process. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
