The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works has completed infrastructure improvements as part of the DPW774 Downman Road and Lincoln Beach Boulevard Improvements project. Work began in October 2024 and was substantially completed in May 2025.
The project included:
Street resurfacing
Re-striping
Sidewalk repairs
Replacement and repair of damaged underground water, sewer, and drainage lines
Project Locations:
Downman Road: Chef Menteur Hwy to Seabrook Bridge
Lincoln Beach Blvd: Press Dr to France Rd
Providence Place: Press Dr to New York St
Leon C. Simon Dr: Press Dr to Elysian Fields Ave
Throughout construction, daily alternating lane closures on Downman Road were implemented to facilitate improvements, with streets reopened each evening for vehicular traffic. Work was typically performed Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 5 PM, with occasional weekend work as needed.
The Department of Public Works managed the project, with a focus on maintaining local access for residents, deliveries, and emergency services at all times. Safety measures, including traffic control signage, barrels, fencing, and "No Parking/Tow Away Zone" signs, were used to direct drivers and pedestrians around active work areas.
We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation during construction. These improvements will enhance street conditions, pedestrian access, and underground infrastructure for years to come.
QUESTIONS: If you have questions about the project, please contact the Department of Public Works at 504-658-8000.
