The Department of Public Works successfully completed the DeSaix Boulevard Bridge Project in 2024. This $6 million initiative, funded by the City of New Orleans bond program, was designed by Neel-Schaffer, Inc. and constructed by RNGD Construction, LLC. The project began in November 2023 and was completed ahead of schedule in December 2024.

The work was carried out in three phases:

  • Phase 1: Crews milled and overlaid Moss Street from Esplanade Avenue to DeSaix Boulevard, addressing the roadway and sidewalks.
  • Phase 2: After Phase 1, crews relocated utilities associated with the DeSaix Boulevard Bridge.
  • Phase 3: Crews then reconstructed the Bayou St. John Bridge, enhancing its structural integrity, roadway surface, sidewalks, and ADA accessibility.

A preconstruction community meeting was held on November 9, 2023, at 6 PM. View the presentation here.

The bridge has now reopened to vehicular and pedestrian traffic, improving safety and connectivity to nearby neighborhoods, the Wisner Trail, and City Park.
