Downtown Bikeways

Image of Downtown Bikeways

As part of the City’s Green House Gas (GHS) reduction strategies, the City will construct six centerline miles of bikeways and create an interconnected web of opportunities for people to sustainably travel between employment, education, entertainment, and other destinations in downtown New Orleans and surrounding residential neighborhoods. These roadways currently provide either conventional  bicycling facilities, or no facility at all for bicycling.

This initiative builds upon two decades of bikeway network expansion and improvement across New Orleans.  The focus for the Downtown Bikeways is connecting trips through a downtown bike network spine between upriver and downriver neighborhoods as well as midway points. This centralized corridor services better connects two of the most used bikeways in the City, the Lafitte Greenway and North Rampart Street, as well as major employment centers in downtown and Mid City.
