The Department of Public Works (DPW) is pleased to announce the completion of the DPW776 Lakeview Alleyway Regrading Northeast Quadrant project. The work, performed by CMG Pipelines began in March 2025 and reached completion in December 2025. The project involved regrading work at various alleyway locations throughout the Lakeview area.

Project Locations:

  • North Boundary: Allen Toussaint Blvd
  • South Boundary: Harrison Ave
  • West Boundary: Canal Blvd
  • East Boundary: Orleans Ave

The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works oversaw construction. Typical working hours were 7 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with weekend work occuring as needed. Crews began work in the 6300 block of Canal Boulevard, progressing north toward the 6900 block of Canal Boulevard. Once that stretch was completed, work shifted east to Vicksburg Street, continuing southward in a snaking pattern through the remaining alleyways.

Each stretch of alleyway, as outlined below, took approximately two weeks to complete, barring weather delays or other unforeseen circumstances:

  • 6300-7000 General Haig St / Orleans Ave – ~2 weeks
  • 6300-7000 Argonne Blvd / General Haig St – ~2 weeks
  • 6300-6900 Marshall Foch St / Argonne Blvd – ~2 weeks
  • 6300-6900 General Diaz St / Marshall Foch St – ~2 weeks
  • 6300-6900 Memphis St / General Diaz St – ~2 weeks
  • 6400-6900 Vicksburg St / Memphis St – ~2 weeks
  • 6300-6900 Canal Blvd / Vicksburg St – ~2 weeks

Important Information About Drainage and Alleyway Work

Alleyways are designed to serve as high points, with water intended to flow both toward the cross streets and through each property to the frontage streets, ultimately entering the subsurface drainage system.

The City is currently regrading alleyways to restore them to their original grade, reflecting the standard design levels. We are not modifying or changing the original grades — only restoring the alleyways to their intended elevations to support proper drainage as originally designed.

Project Overview

Throughout the project, DPW prioritized safety and ensured minimal disruption to the community by maintaining local access for residents, deliveries, and emergency services. Traffic control measures, including signage, barrels, and fencing, were in place to guide drivers and pedestrians safely through work zones.

We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation during this process. These improvements will enhance accessibility, safety, and mobility in these critical areas for years to come.
