The Department of Public Works has contracted CMG Pipelines to perform essential infrastructure repairs in the Lakeview area as part of the DPW776 Lakeview Alleyway Regrading Northeast Quadrant project. Construction is  begin on March 17, 2025, and will continue through early 2026, weather permitting. The project involves regrading work at various alleyway locations throughout the Lakeview area.

Project Locations:

  • North Boundary: Allen Toussaint Blvd
  • South Boundary: Harrison Ave
  • West Boundary: Canal Blvd
  • East Boundary: Orleans Ave

The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works is overseeing construction. The typical working hours are 7 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Weekend work will occur as needed. Crews began work in the 6300 block of Canal Blvd, progressing north toward the 6900 block of Canal Blvd. Once that stretch is completed, work will shift east to Vicksburg Street, continuing southward in a snaking pattern through the remaining alleyways.

Each stretch of alleyway, as outlined below, is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete, barring weather delays or other unforeseen circumstances:

  • 6300-7000 General Haig St / Orleans Ave – ~2 weeks
  • 6300-7000 Argonne Blvd / General Haig St – ~2 weeks
  • 6300-6900 Marshall Foch St / Argonne Blvd – ~2 weeks
  • 6300-6900 General Diaz St / Marshall Foch St – ~2 weeks
  • 6300-6900 Memphis St / General Diaz St – ~2 weeks
  • 6400-6900 Vicksburg St / Memphis St – ~2 weeks
  • 6300-6900 Canal Blvd / Vicksburg St – ~2 weeks

Please note: Construction schedules, dates, and durations are subject to change due to rain, equipment breakdown, unforeseen field conditions, existing utility conflicts, or crew availability.

Important Information About Drainage and Alleyway Work

Alleyways are designed to serve as high points, with water intended to flow both toward the cross streets and through each property to the frontage streets, ultimately entering the subsurface drainage system.

The City is currently regrading alleyways to restore them to their original grade, reflecting the standard design levels. We are not modifying or changing the original grades — only restoring the alleyways to their intended elevations to support proper drainage as originally designed.

What to Expect During Construction

Residents and businesses should be aware of the following potential construction impacts:

✅ Minimal Impact on Trash Collection – Trash trucks will still have access to alleyways.
✅ Garage Access – Temporary limited access for properties near active work zones.
⚠️ Dust & Noise – Expect typical construction-related noise and dust.
⚠️ Traffic Delays – Alleyways will remain accessible, but temporary delays may occur.
⚠️ School Commute Disruptions – Possible delays during drop-off and pick-up times for schools that use the alleyways.
