The Department of Public Works (DPW) is pleased to announce the successful completion of infrastructure repairs on Poydras Street (S. Claiborne Ave. – Convention Center Blvd.) as part of the DPW716 Right of Way (ROW) Project. The work, performed by Hard Rock Construction, LLC, began in May 2024 and concluded in December 2024.
The project included comprehensive street resurfacing, roadway repaving, sidewalk replacements, and the installation of ADA-compliant curb ramps at intersections. Click here to view a video recap of the project.
Project Scope
Work on Poydras Street was completed in two sections:
- S. Claiborne Ave. – S. Liberty St.
- Loyola Ave. – Convention Center Blvd.
As part of the improvements, new bike lanes were added in both directions on Poydras Street between Loyola Ave. and Convention Center Blvd., along with a riverbound bike lane between S. Liberty and Loyola.

Project Details
Throughout the project, DPW ensured minimal disruption by maintaining local access for residents, deliveries, and emergency services. Safety remained a top priority, with traffic control measures, signage, and barriers implemented to protect pedestrians and drivers.
