Bicycling

Moving New Orleans Bikes aims to enhance safety, access, and connectivity for cyclists. This initiative recognizes bicycling as a crucial transportation option that benefits the entire community.

The city-wide bike planning effort began in April 2019 with public input meetings, followed by draft network presentations in August 2019. This process created a vision for a connected, protected, and low-stress bikeway network.

As of December 2020, construction is underway in several neighborhoods, with more corridors planned for 2021. Future design and pre-construction public engagement meetings will be scheduled throughout the year.

We encourage all community members to participate in this initiative, as improved bike infrastructure can address shared mobility challenges and enhance our city's quality of life.

New Orleans Bikeway Blueprint

The Moving New Orleans Bikes planning effort culminated in the New Orleans Bikeway Blueprint map and was released to the public September 10, 2020. The City remains committed to the guiding principles of an equitable, low-stress, connected, useful and timely bicycling network that is targeted to connect all our neighborhoods, and especially those with equity priorities.
