New Orleans Compost Alliance

In June 2024, Sprout NOLA and the Office of Resilience and Sustainability, in partnership with REALCYCLE, Compost NOW, and Schmelly's Dirt Farm received a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant to expand composting in the City. This grant represents a collaborative effort between multiple organizations to advance sustainability and environmental health in New Orleans. The initiative seeks to improve soil quality, mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, and empower local communities by leveraging composting practices.

This led to the creation of the New Orleans Compost Alliance (NOCA)!

Here are a few ways you can get involved with the NOCA!:

  • Click here to apply for a FREE at-home compost bin from Compost NOW

  • Email Grace (grace.treffinger@nola.gov) if your garden/farm is interested in being a compost micro-hub and can receive compost drop-offs!
