Trash and recycling collection resumes today, Sept. 12. Collection will run a day behind schedule for the remainder of the week.
The Department of Sanitation directs all activities related to garbage collection, disposal, recycling, and street cleaning, including registration of new garbage and recycling cans. It is also responsible for ensuring compliance of local, state, and federal regulations for solid waste collection and disposal for the City of New Orleans.

The City of New Orleans Department of Sanitation today announced that trash and recycling colections have been cancelled for Wednesday, Sept. 11 due to the forecasted impacts of Tropical Storm Francine.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell today was joined by members of the New Orleans City Council, New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (NOHSEP) Director Collin Arnold, other emergency preparedness agencies and tourism industry leaders to update residents on the developments and preparations ahead of Tropical Storm Francine.
On Saturday, Sept. 14, the City of New Orleans’ Department of Sanitation will host a paper shredding event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City’s Recycling Drop-Off Center, located at 2829 Elysian Fields Ave. Given the high demand for Shred Day events, it is recommended that residents arrive early to take advantage of shredding services before capacity has been exhausted.

For the seventh year, the City of New Orleans Department of Sanitation is partnering with The Green Project on a Paint Reclamation Project. From Tuesday, April 30 through Saturday, May 4, residents will be able to pick up reusable paint processed from the City’s Annual Household Hazardous Waste Materials Collection Day that was held on April 20. Orleans Parish residents dropped off a significant amount of paint at the event, which welcomed more than 700 vehicles.

The City of New Orleans Department of Sanitation today announced it will host a Household Hazardous Waste Materials Collection Day on Saturday, April 20, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Recycling Drop-Off Center (2829 Elysian Fields Ave.). The event is open to Orleans Parish residents only (businesses and organizations excluded). Proof of Orleans Parish residency will be required in the form of a valid driver’s license or a motor vehicle inspection sticker.
