A 50-Year Vision for the Gentilly Resilience District

  • Event Description: Join us for a presentation of the Vision Plan for Gentilly, a model for holistic resilience planning for New Orleans’s low-lying neighborhoods and a complement to the urban water projects of the GRD. Lead designers Waggonner & Ball (authors of the Greater New Orleans Urban Water Plan and designers of the Mirabeau Water Garden) will present key points of the Vision Plan, and the City’s Department of Stormwater & Green Infrastructure will give a progress update on GRD projects & programs.

Green Infrastructure, Groundwater, and Urban Ecosystems​​​

  • Event Description: Join us for two presentations from leading experts in Gentilly and beyond: First, a presentation from the Netherlands-based groundwater expert Roelof Sturrman about his cutting-edge research on the relationship of groundwater to pumping, subsidence, and water management in New Orleans. Then, hear about how the Tulane ByWater Institute and the New Orleans Mosquito, Termite, and Rodent Control Board (NOMTRCB) have partnered since 2017 to monitor populations of mosquitoes, rodents, birds, and vegetation on GRD project sites. Learn about their research and its implications for the design and adaptive management of green infrastructure sites, best practices for residents, and the ongoing work of the NOMTRCB.

Ripple Effect: Developing a Model for Water Literacy in NOLA Schools

  • Event Description: Join us for Ripples to Waves, a learning experience led by Ripple Effect educators. We will work in groups to develop a visual model of the city’s drainage system and landscape history. Models like this are key to building the shared knowledge needed to find next-generation solutions to critical climate & infrastructure challenges in New Orleans and beyond. Ripple Effect is a New Orleans-based nonprofit environmental education organization working to educate and empower the next generation of water literate leaders. Ripples to Waves is a National Academies Gulf Research Programfunded effort to integrate place-based curriculum about climate change and New Orleans water management into 9th grade environmental science courses.
